Install issues

Hi -

I keep getting the following error when I try to install ChimpExpress on WordPress:

Fatal error when installing ChimpExpress on WordPress

* I also have MailChimp alread installed, successfully.
* I have tried installing directly through the plugin directory and activating from there.
* Also tried (after deleting the previous) downloading zip from CE site and uploading zip file then installing and activating.

I get the same error message each time.

One thing: my site is currently in "maintenance mode" while we are gearing up for launch. Would that prohibit CE from activating?

Hello Laura,

How did you put your site in maintenance mode? With a plugin or manually? Which plugin is it if you are using one?
Which PHP version runs on your server? Note that ChimpExpress only works on PHP5.
Do you have access to the server's error logs? Does it show any errors when you try to install the plugin?

Plugin for maintenance mode - Maintenance Mode 5.4. And then we're using a widget from Launch Rock ( www.launchrock.com ) for what appears at the URL ( www.streetfightmag.com ).

I don't have access to server logs. I use Page.ly. I do not know if they use PHP5.

Is this at all helpful? Any more thoughts on why the problems with installation?

Hello Laura,

I installed the maintenance plugin and enabled it. Still I was able to install chimpexpress from the plugin repository and by uploading the zip file. So it doesn't have to do with the maintenance plugin.
I contacted the Page.ly support to find out what PHP version they are using. I also asked if they would supply me with a test site where I can debug this issue. Still waiting for an answer...

Hi Laura,

Page.ly support wasn't very helpful. They answered with a message that contains "php 5.2.14" and nothing else.
I think the error might be caused by a missing ftp module in the used php version. I'll send you the new (unreleased) version, which can work without ftp access. Please give it a try and let me know if it works.
